El Toro Lento

Directed by Hudson Ortiz

Sergio is a disenchanted boxer pursuing a career he’s fallen out of love with to satisfy the expectations of his family. When he isn’t in the ring, he’s half-heartedly training boxers, like Alex, a young gardener struggling to provide for himself and his girlfriend Rosa. Every night, to escape from his unfulfilling life, Sergio locks up the gym and becomes El Toro Fuerte, the unstoppable Luchador. But for how long can he keep his alter-ego a secret?

Director Statement

My love for film comes from one belief: “The highest human act is to inspire” – Nipsey Hussle. With full confidence, I believe that a good movie can change the world for the better. If only one person watches something that I created and walks away a bit more optimistic, a bit more motivated, and a bit more compassionate, then I have fulfilled my purpose.

Director Biography

Hudson Ortiz is a filmmaker of Jewish and Mexican-American descent from Southern California. After leaving a career in HVAC to pursue a lifelong dream of working in the film industry, Hudson is making his directorial debut with “El Toro Lento”: A story of perseverance and persistence framed within the world of Lucha Libre.

Under the mentorship and guidance of HBO’s Bryan Carroll (Peacemaker, The Penguin, Dune: Prophecy), Hudson has been on a mission to become an all-around film professional. Through forming meaningful connections with other creators, Hudson has earned opportunities to produce short films, series pilots, and music videos, in Los Angeles, New York City, and London.

The next step in Hudson’s journey is releasing “El Toro Lento” as a short film, with the hopes of turning it into a feature-length film in the very near future.
