The Second Sunday of May

Directed by Nepal Arslan

A restless young man races across a coastal town in search of croissants, music, sunflowers, and a sunset with his mother. He chases a life of color as the world turns black and white, finding glimpses of vibrance along his journey of setbacks, karma, and unexpected friends.

Get to know the Director Nepal Arslan

Nepal Arslan is a Turkish-American filmmaker based out of San Diego. His first word in English was “food” and the second was “more,” an appetite that took over in the form of storytelling. A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he attended on a full-ride merit scholarship, he has written and directed multiple award-winning narrative films and over 40 commercials for brands and corporate clients. His work has been recognized at Oscar-qualifying festivals such as LA Shorts and the Rhode Island International Film Festival, and has earned honors from the Austin Film Festival, San Diego Film Awards, NFFTY, and TINDIE. He was invited to give a TEDx talk in 2019 on his journey as a young filmmaker. From 2020 to 2024, he led commercial production as Director of Video Production at KCOMM, one of California’s top PR firms. He later became Head of Digital Media Production and Broadcast Journalism at Poway Unified School District, teaching in a state-of-the-art film studio and mentoring over 100 students annually. Influenced by his multicultural background and lifelong practice of meditation, Arslan’s storytelling often explores themes of identity, courage, and learning life’s profound lessons through its wildest, most unpredictable moments.
