Get to know the Director, Kirby Harrison Jr.
Kirby Harrison Jr. was born on October 29, 1979, at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley, California, and raised in Richmond, California. He graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1997 before embarking on a distinguished military career by joining the U.S. Navy on May 25, 2000.
During his 21 years of service, Kirby specialized as a Logistics Specialist, along with roles as a Fitness Coordinator and Equal Opportunity Manager. His military career included six overseas tours, including an individual augmentation deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan earning numerous awards and commendations. He retired from active duty on August 31, 2021.
Committed to continuous learning, Kirby earned a certificate from the New York Film Academy Workshop in 2004. He pursued higher education, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Workforce Education & Development in August 2007, followed by a Master’s Degree in Digital Journalism in March 2013.
Kirby’s diverse background blends technical expertise, leadership, and education, reflecting a dedication to service, development, and communication.
