New Human
Directed by Catherina Cojulún
Young botanist grapples with the unsettling idea that her robot clone may be humanity’s best hope—while she questions her own worth in the future.
Catherina Cojulún (she/her) is a director and editor from the small town of Escondido in Southern California. Originally set to direct “New Human” as her thesis film, the project was halted due to the pandemic, leading her to pivot and focus on growing her freelance editing career. This led her to collaborate with MiraCosta College to film and edit two award-winning, 2-hour-long hybrid productions: “Working: The Musical” and “14”.
Since then, Cat has edited and color-graded several indie short films, including “Fou”, which is currently in the festival circuit, and “Makeup and Medicine”. She also DIT’d and assistant edited the recently premiered feature film”God is Good”, and colored all episodes of the PBS show “Fresh Glass”.
Her recently completed short, “New Human”, signals a bold return to her original vision, and she is currently developing a feature script for the project. Cat is currently in pre-production for her next short, and hopes to follow it with a feature in 2026.
