Athenia’s Last Voyage

Directed by Meghan Courtney

On the first day of World War II, the British passenger ship, Athenia, was torpedoed by a German submarine without warning. This tragedy marked the start of the war in western Europe, yet few people have heard of Athenia or know of its extraordinary place in history.

Now, more than eight decades after this tragedy, nine survivors tell this long-forgotten story in the new documentary, Athenia’s Last Voyage. Their tales of courage and sacrifice remind us of the terrible consequences ordinary people suffer in times of war.
